Riverbank Checklist
One page for the bank, before you cast.
1. Safety and access. Footing, flow, weather, private land, and other people. If the wade looks wrong, it is wrong. 2. Name the features. Riffle, run, and pool in the next stretch you can see. 3. Mark contrast. Foam lines, speed changes, depth shelves, shade lines. 4. Note cover. Undercuts, wood, boulders, overhanging vegetation. 5. Pick one hypothesis. One sentence about where to start, and why. 6. Define the test. How many clean drifts before you change one variable. 7. Leave a breadcrumb. A phone note, so the day becomes data instead of fog. 8. Change your angle. If glare is bad, move before you decide the stretch is empty.
